“Dispute between Bangladesh and Myanmar is like a quarrel between husband and wife”: Li Jiming, Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh
Mousumi Nargis Lucky from Dhaka:
Li Jiming, China’s ambassador to Bangladesh, compared the ongoing dispute between Bangladesh and Myanmar over the Rohingya issue to a quarrel between ‘husband and wife.’
He was speaking at a function of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DICAB) at the National Press Club on Monday, 7 June .
China’s Ambassador in Bangladesh Mr. Li Jiming said the dispute between Bangladesh and Myanmar is minimum . It’s like a quarrel between ‘husband and wife.’ And if a couple goes to a third party, their problem is not solved.
Li Jiming also noted that China wants an end to violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state and the speedy repatriation of Rohingya from Bangladesh.
He did not comment on the International Court of Justice’s ruling.
Mentioning that both Myanmar and Bangladesh are good friends of China, Jim said China wants more talks between the two countries instead of pressure from the West.
The diplomat said Myanmar had been under pressure from the West for many years. They don’t want to take this pressure anymore.
