Bangladesh minister’s mobile phone snatched from SUV at the capital Dhaka’s Bijoy Sarani area
A minister of Bangladesh said his mobile phone was snatched.
Mobile phone of the country’s Planning Minister MA Mannan was snatched while he was talking on the phone in his SUV at the capital Dhaka’s Bijoy Sarani area on Sunday, 30 May, evening.
Police confirmed the incident to the media.
The incident happened around 7:00pm on Sunday when the minister left his office and was waiting in traffic at Bijoy Sarani. As the window of the SUV was lowered, an unidentified person grabbed his phone and ran away, one police officer said.
“A case was filed following the incident. We are trying to recover the phone and arrest the culprit,” he added.
The country’s planning minister Abdul Mannan was browsing something on his mobile phone while sitting in his car with one of its windows rolled down at Bijoy Sharani on Sunday, 30 May, evening.
“Suddenly, before I even knew what was happening, the mugger snatched it from me and ran,” Minister for Planning Abdul Mannan told journalists about the incident following an ECNEC meeting at the Planning Commission in Dhaka on Tuesday, 1 June.
“It took me a couple of seconds to realise what was happening because I was absorbed in my browsing. When I recovered, I told the policeman in the car that my phone was stolen.”
Such incidents of mobile phones being snatched from commuters are frequent at Dhaka’s Bijoy Sarani and Fargate area.
